The Latest on Baby Goodwin

Well...where to begin!? The past few months have gone by incredibly fast and I have lots of updates but I will start with the latest...

I am now 33 weeks and 4 days. Last Thursday I went into my routine prenatal appt and my midwife informed me that I was having contractions about every 5 minutes! I was hooked up to a monitor to watch the contractions/baby's movement and continued to have about 5 more within half an hr. They sent me down to the triage in San Diego, where me and my mom sat for 4 hrs waiting and watching the monitors. Luckily I was not dialated and the baby is doing just fine. I was sent home with orders of bedrest for the next 3wks and meds to stop the contractions. Two days later the meds wore off and Josh had to take me down again to triage until 2am where I was given a new medication. As of today, it's been a little over a week since the contractions started, I am having about 10/hr but have still not dialated or anything. I had a prenatal visit today where my dose was increased for the medication so I'm crossing my fingers that I do not have to go back down to triage.

I only have 3 days until I am officially 34 weeks, at which point the doctors will stop trying to stop the contractions...which means I could go into labor at any time. I am just hoping at the point that I can last at least another week to 35 weeks. As of our last ultrasound, our little baby boy is 4 1/2 lbs. He is super active and doing very well despite everything goin on in there! So in the mean time we are just hangin' in there and hoping that he will stay in a few more weeks!

Here are some recent pictures of the Baby shower that Lisa and Jenna threw for me! It was so much fun and they did such a good job with decorations and games! We are so lucky that we got such wonderful gifts from everyone! I have had so much fun setting up the room and getting everything ready for our little guy:-)

IT'S A BOY!!

I'm pretty positive that everyone knows already, but I thought I would make a post just in case! Josh and I found out on Aug 14th that we are having a little baby boy! We are both so excited, but I have to admit that Josh probably wins for most excited because I would have been happy with either and he was really hoping to have a boy as his first. It was the hardest thing in the world for us to keep it a secret until the ceremony but some how we did and it was a lot of fun announcing it! It's funny how pretty much everyone thought it was going to be a boy from the very beginning.

20 weeks
The blessing ceremony turned out perfectly and was exactly what I have always imagined my wedding would be like. I felt so lucky having all of the most important people in my life there with me. I am very blessed to know so many wonderful people and I love you all!! Josh and I both agree that that was the happiest day of our lives! Truly! It went by very fast and when thinking about it, it seems like a big blur! I can't wait to see all the pics and the wedding video! Oh and if any of you have pics that you took at the ceremony pleeeease send them to me! I love seeing everyone's photos because each person got different things which is really neat!

Last week we decided that since we now know that we're having a little boy we could go to Babies R Us to start our registry for the baby shower in November! Let me tell you- that was the most fun ever! haha We were there for about 4 hrs each with our tag guns adding fun stuff to our list. They had a list of what is essential for the first year and thank goodness for that because there were things on it that I have never even heard of before! I guess I would have figured out soon enough once the little guy came that I was missing some stuff though. I am most excited about the "pack and play" which is a bassinet, changing table, and play pen with mobile all in one and will make life much easier in our tiny house!

Blessing Ceremony!!!

All of a sudden our Blessing Ceremony is a week a way!! It has been a life changing three months and I am so excited for everything to come together and celebrate! I am so grateful for everyone who is traveling from far distances to be with us on our special day. It means a lot to me and Josh. We have some really great family and friends and it will be so neat getting to be with everyone at the same time; probably the only time that will ever happen! Can't wait to see everyone!!

For an update on baby, everything is still going really well. I'm growing by the day and my belly button is on the verge of no longer being an "innie". We have our ultrasound to find out the sex on Aug 14th.....TWO DAYS BEFORE THE CEREMONY! So it will be a really exciting few days:-)



P.S. We are having a dj and dance floor so you better be ready to come dance with me or I will go around and personally round everyone up! haha. LOVE YOU GUYS!!!

18 Weeks 8/3/08

Belly's still growing and baby is moving!

Josh has been home for a month now and things have been so much easier! Not only do I have someone to help with things like taking out the trash, its soo nice to have him home with me to just do the simple things like eat dinner together. Things I definitely took for granted before he left! I was so happy that he made it home in time to go to the next prenatal appt because we got to hear the heart beat! It was so cool and our midwife said that the baby has a very healthy heart beat (144bpm) which we were very excited about! We didn't get a pic this time but we will for our next appt when we find out our little one's sex!! I am now 5 months pregnant (when the heck did that happen?!) and definitely showing! haha. The most exciting thing that has happened is that I started being able to feel the baby moving!! I was sitting at work reading something on the computer and sure enough I felt a little movement! Since then I have felt it everyday & get so excited when he/she starts tumbling around! Josh is jealous because he still can't feel it from the outside yet but I think he will be able to soon:-)

Made it through: 1st Trimester & Josh's LAST deployment!

As of tomorrow 7/6/08 I am 14 weeks pregnant and officially starting my 2nd trimester. As of Monday 7/7/08 Josh is home for good!! There is so much relief about both of these events...I have found myself reluctant to let myself be too excited about the pregnancy because I know that there is a chance of miscarriage. Not that there still isn't but getting through that first trimester makes me feel more assured that things are going well. I will also be soooo relieved to have Josh home again (for good!!!!). It has been hard on both of us being seperated during the first part of the pregnancy, but I am so excited for him to be here now and get to go through the rest of it together. He will make it home in time for the 2nd prenatal appt which I am really happy about and we will get to HEAR the baby's first heart beat. I read in my book that as of this week the baby is 5 inches long and weighs 5 ounces & my uterus is the size of a small melon! It is obvious now when you look at my belly that I either drink way too much beer or I have a little baby in there. Not only will my pants not button, they won't zip up either! I finally broke down and went out and bought some real maternity pants today which aren't as bad as I thought they would be.


My appetite is back to normal, but I have found that I need to eat a lot more protein then I am use to b/c I have been getting light headed during the day. I never realized it before but I don't really eat that much meat on a daily basis. The prenatal vitamins help but since they make me sick I don't take them until the middle of the day. And thanks to our crazy pup Koko, I am forced to go on long walks to get some exercize.


The two hardest things to give up have been my daily two cups of coffee habit and my weekly sushi. Thank goodness for Cali rolls!

New Job, New Belly, New Cravings!

I started training for my job on June 6th and was very thankful to be out of my hot, unconditioned house. I was still feeling sick until probably the third week of June, but it was no where near as bad as it had been in the weeks prior. Josh is floating around somewhere in the ocean & his letters he writes me everyday gives me something to look forward to after a long day of sitting in bordum. He never fails to tell me how excited he is about the baby and us, which gets me through my self doubt and nervous thoughts that are running through my mind on a daily basis. He was positive and strong from the very begining which I still don't know how he was able to do. All I know is that I am very lucky.


At the very beginning of my 12th week, I started to show...probably not to other people but I was definitely able to tell and so was my mom. Luckily she had bought me pants expanders the week before because my jeans were no longer buttoning! I had to keep reminding myself that I am not getting fat-I am just having a baby!


When I went to see my grandma, she made me a tuna fish sandwich and I was actually able to eat it!! I was so excited b/c that was the first normal food that I had eaten for 6 weeks and actually was able to enjoy it! I had tuna sandwiches on two more occasion before I decided I would make myself one, which was a bad mistake. For some reason making it myself made it taste horrible and I haven't touched tuna since.

Ready or Not....Here Comes the Morning Sickness

This is the part of the pregnancy I would most love to forget. About a week after my first prenatal appt the nausea started. Which also happened to be the week of my 24th birthday, my Master's degree graduation, and the craziest heat wave to ever hit San Diego (that's probably not true but it sure felt that way). I was able to stomach three things: saltine crackers, water, and chicken broth. The sight of cheese or meat made me want to die! Anything that I use to love to eat sounded like the worst thing I have ever heard. I do feel very lucky though for a few reasons. One: I just happened to start feeling sick right when I had just finished school and had three whole weeks of nothing to do- the first time that has happened for two years of school. Two: based on what my mom's morning sickness was like, 9 mos of hell-throwing up after every meal, losing tons of weight,etc, my 6 weeks of laying in bed seems like nothing. Three: I just started my job with Child Welfare Services which requires 2 months of initial training that is done sitting in an air conditioned classroom, getting paid, and perfect for a sicko pregnant lady. Four: I have a great family who lives close by to volunteer to do my grocery shopping, buy me maternity clothes, and let me spend the night when my house is just too damn hot! Despite the initial shock I feel very fortunate for the way everything is unfolding. It has been a lot easier/more enjoyable then I first imagined after reading the positive pregnancy test.

Baby's First Picture!

On May 19th, in the midst of all the disbelief/excitement/craziness, I had my first prenatal appointment. Unfortunately Josh had JUST left that morning for his two month deployment and had to miss it. It was very strange sitting in the waiting room with all the obviously pregnant women and I was still unconvinced that i was actually pregnant. I was 7 weeks and not even feeling the morning sickness yet. I was so excited when my midwife told me that she would do an ultrasound so that we could see the little one's heartbeat! She gave me a due date of January 4th - same birth month as Josh which is kinda cool. The baby was the size of a kidney bean and didn't look like much more then a little blob on the screen, but it was enough to have me convinced that yes, I am pregnant....yikes! My next appt will not be until July 24th.

Josh & I are so lucky to have lots and lots of special people in our lives. Since not all of you are local to us and (although we would like to) we aren't able to update on our exciting new addition as often as we would like....creating a blog seems to be a good solution:-) So leave lots of comments and check in often!
